Mindfulness Benefits of Flower Arranging

Flower arranging has many benefits

One of my favorite benefits to highlight is that flower arranging is an amazing way to practice mindfulness. If you’re looking for an in depth explanation of mindfulness, you can check out my post here. Flower arranging brings you into the present moment since you’re focused on arranging the flowers and less on your mind chatter. We all have a constant dialogue going on in our heads that tends to take us out of the present moment. We typically are thinking about something that’s happening later or something that happened in the past. When we are arranging flowers, we tend to focus on the task at hand and our mind chatter seems to slow down.

Flower arranging engages your senses for a rich sensory experience

It feels so good to arrange flowers and tune into the different sensations they offer. For example, you can really engage with or tune into the softness of the petals on your hands, the cool temperature of the water in the vase and the lovely scent that flowers have. If you slow down and focus on the flowers in front of you, you turn arranging flowers into a deep experience that excites the senses.

Flower arranging draws us into the here and now

When we take time to arrange flowers at home or in a group setting, we are dedicating time to ourselves. Oftentimes when we are drawn out of the present moment, it’s because we’re not very interested in what’s in front of us at the moment or because something is challenging and we want to move past it. Flowers are so beautiful and captivating that they make us interested in the task at hand. It’s hard to be anywhere but the present moment when there are fresh flowers to play with!
